Director (Refineries) highlights energy security, higher LPG production, green hydrogen and the refinery of the future at IndianOil Day celebrations
New Delhi : Arvind Kumar, Director (Refineries), IndianOil, has reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to building an energy-secure and self-reliant India, while calling upon employees to respond decisively to an increasingly complex and rapidly changing energy landscape.
Mr Kumar made the remarks while leading the 67th IndianOil Day celebrations on September 1 at the Refineries Headquarters in New Delhi. Employees from across IndianOil’s Refineries Division participated in the celebrations virtually.
IndianOil’s 66-Year Journey and Commitment to the Nation
Addressing employees, Mr Kumar reflected on IndianOil’s 66-year journey and its enduring mission of serving the nation and ensuring reliable energy supplies.
He appreciated the efforts of teams across the Refineries Division for maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies through close coordination and seamless collaboration during the recent West Asia crisis.
He also highlighted the Corporation’s efforts to increase LPG production by nearly 35%, which helped reduce India’s dependence on imports and strengthened the availability and security of domestic LPG supplies.
Calling on IOCians to remain prepared for emerging challenges, Mr Kumar said:
“We cannot choose the environment in which we operate. But we can choose how we respond to it.”
He emphasised that adaptability, collaboration and decisive action would remain critical as the energy sector undergoes rapid transformation.
Focus on the Refinery of the Future
Mr Kumar also outlined the changing nature of the refining industry and the need for IndianOil’s refineries to evolve in line with emerging energy and industrial requirements.
He highlighted several key areas shaping the future of refining, including:
- Greater integration between refining and petrochemicals
- Expansion of specialty product portfolios
- Improved energy efficiency and operational intelligence
- Greater sustainability and environmental responsibility
- Enhanced resilience against external disruptions
- Development of green energy capabilities
A key milestone highlighted during the address was the development of India’s first large-scale 10 KTA Green Hydrogen Plant.
Mr Kumar said the refinery of tomorrow must be more integrated, intelligent, energy-efficient, sustainable and resilient to meet the country’s evolving energy needs.

The IndianOil Day celebrations also recognised employees for their contributions and long-term commitment to the Corporation.

“Smiles We Spread” Initiative at Blind Relief Association
Earlier in the day, Mr Kumar visited The Blind Relief Association, Delhi, as part of IndianOil’s “Smiles We Spread” outreach initiative.
During the visit, he interacted with visually impaired students and reaffirmed IndianOil’s commitment to promoting inclusive and accessible education.
The initiative reflects the Corporation’s broader focus on social responsibility and its efforts to support communities through meaningful interventions.
Strengthening India’s Energy Future
The 67th IndianOil Day celebrations highlighted the Corporation’s evolving role in India’s energy transition—from ensuring reliable conventional energy supplies to investing in green hydrogen, petrochemicals, specialty products and more sustainable refining technologies.
With global energy markets facing increasing uncertainty and India’s energy requirements continuing to grow, IndianOil’s focus on energy security, self-reliance, innovation and sustainability is expected to remain central to its future strategy.
