HPCL’s HRRL Refinery Resumes Operations After Restoration; Diesel Dispatches to Begin This Week

Mumbai, June 18, 2026: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has announced the successful restart of operations at HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) after completing restoration work on the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU). The refinery is now back in operation following a localized fire incident that temporarily disrupted production earlier this year.

The refinery had suspended operations after a localized fire broke out in the CDU heat exchanger stack on April 20, 2026. Following an extensive restoration and safety assessment, HPCL confirmed that the CDU has been successfully recommissioned and is operating normally.

Production of Major Petroleum Products Underway

According to the company, both the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and the Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) are now producing all major product streams, which are being transferred to storage tanks for further downstream processing.

The refinery has resumed production of several key petroleum products, including:

  • BS-VI High Speed Diesel (HSD)
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • Petcoke
  • Naphtha

HPCL stated that commercial sales of LPG and Petcoke have already commenced, indicating a steady return to normal refinery operations.

Diesel Dispatches to Begin This Week

The company said dispatches of BS-VI High Speed Diesel (HSD) are expected to begin by the end of this week, helping strengthen fuel supplies across its distribution network.

Meanwhile, production and commercial dispatches of BS-VI Motor Spirit (Petrol) are scheduled to begin next week as the refinery continues to stabilize operations.

Gradual Ramp-Up Toward Full Capacity

HPCL and HRRL management emphasized that the refinery will continue a phased and carefully monitored ramp-up toward optimal production capacity, with a strong focus on operational safety, process stability, and efficiency.

The company noted that all restoration activities were carried out in accordance with stringent safety standards to ensure reliable long-term operations.

Support Acknowledged

HPCL expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), the Government of India, the Government of Rajasthan, and other stakeholders for their continuous support during the restoration process.

Strengthening India’s Energy Supply

The successful restart of the HRRL refinery marks an important milestone for HPCL, restoring production of critical petroleum products after the April incident. As diesel and petrol dispatches resume over the coming days, the refinery is expected to play a significant role in strengthening India’s fuel supply chain and supporting growing domestic energy demand.
