Tokyo, Japan — Google has released its list of the Top 10 most-trending anime of 2025, highlighting a mix of dark psychological dramas, high-octane action series and emotionally heavy supernatural stories that have captured global attention this year.
Topping the list is Takopi’s Original Sin, the limited series adaptation of Taizan 5’s Shonen Jump+ manga. The dark sci-fi drama has dominated online discussions due to its unfiltered portrayal of trauma, abuse and childhood vulnerability. The story follows a tormented nine-year-old girl whose life changes after meeting an endearing alien whose good intentions lead to both healing and tragedy. Praised for its raw emotional storytelling, the anime has become 2025’s most-searched title in Japan and is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
Taking second place is Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which has reinvigorated the legendary Gundam franchise with its intense battles and the mysterious “Psychomuu” system. Meanwhile, Netflix’s chilling supernatural drama The Summer Hikaru Died ranks among the most talked-about anime of the year. The series follows childhood friends Yoshiki and Hikaru, whose relationship begins to unravel when Yoshiki senses that the boy who returned to him may not truly be Hikaru. Season 2 was officially confirmed in late September.
Also making major waves is the long-awaited return of Sakamoto Days, whose Season 2 won back fans after criticism of the first season’s toned-down action. The new season dives deeper into Taro Sakamoto’s past as a feared assassin and expands the criminal underworld that continues to chase him. Critics have praised the darker tone and improved animation, calling it one of the standout action anime of 2025.
