New Delhi : In a major step toward strengthening its global mining consultancy presence, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) has successfully completed a high-level technical field mission in Mozambique, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Tete East Coal Project. The assignment reinforces CMPDI’s growing reputation as an internationally competitive mining engineering and resource consultancy firm.
A five-member technical delegation led by Shri Rakesh Kumar Sharma, General Manager (Opencast Operations), CMPDI, conducted an extensive site visit in Mozambique’s Tete Province from June 15 to June 19, 2026. The field mission follows the consultancy agreement signed in May 2026 between CMPDI and International Coal Ventures Limited (ICVL).
Key Field Assessment Completed
During the five-day technical assignment, the delegation carried out detailed assessments of the proposed mining area, focusing on:
- Topographical surveys
- Regional geological conditions
- Existing transportation and logistics infrastructure
- Mine development feasibility
- Environmental baseline studies
The findings from this mission will serve as the foundation for preparing a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed open-cast coking and thermal coal mine in the Moatize coal basin, one of the world’s richest coal-bearing regions.
