New Delhi |The Opposition on Tuesday intensified its campaign over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy, demanding an immediate debate in Parliament, greater transparency from the Delhi Police, and the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk.
Senior Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal, visited protesters who were reportedly injured during Monday’s demonstrations in the national capital. The leaders met those receiving treatment, expressed solidarity with the protesters, and criticized the government’s handling of the situation.
Inside Parliament, Opposition MPs staged demonstrations, accusing the government of avoiding accountability over the alleged examination irregularities and the police response to the protests. They demanded that the Delhi Police make public all FIRs, detention records, and details of action taken against demonstrators during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march.
The Opposition also reiterated its demand for the immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a prolonged hunger strike while protesting over issues linked to the movement.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Monday to submit its list of demands regarding the ongoing protests.
According to party leaders, the delegation urged the government to address the concerns raised by protesters and take corrective action. They also maintained that the movement would continue until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan steps down from office.
Responding to the delegation, J.P. Nadda, who also serves as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, said the Central Government remains open to dialogue and appealed to protesters to end their sit-in peacefully.
However, CJP leaders rejected the appeal and announced that their protest would continue until their primary demand for Pradhan’s resignation is fulfilled.
Sonam Wangchuk’s Health Condition
Sonam Wangchuk continues to receive treatment at Safdarjung Hospital under the supervision of a multidisciplinary medical team.
According to the latest medical bulletin, his vital signs remain stable, but doctors reported that his blood sugar level remains low, while his serum potassium level was measured at 3.2 mEq/L.
Hospital authorities stated that Wangchuk is being treated with oral rehydration therapy and potassium supplements. However, he has continued to decline intravenous fluids and glucose, despite repeated medical advice from doctors.
Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18 after being taken there by the Delhi Police while continuing his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
The ongoing controversy has further intensified the political confrontation between the Opposition and the Central Government, with demands for accountability over the NEET paper leak, the treatment of protesters, and the health and detention of Sonam Wangchuk expected to dominate parliamentary proceedings in the coming days.
