New Delhi: In a significant development for India’s public sector mining industry, Salil Kumar Nag, currently serving as General Manager at Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), has been recommended for appointment as Director (Technical) at Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB).
The recommendation was made following a selection meeting conducted by the PESB, the government body responsible for selecting senior executives for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). During the selection process, multiple eligible candidates were interviewed before the board recommended Salil Kumar Nag for the prestigious leadership position.
If the recommendation receives the required approvals from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and other competent authorities, Nag will assume responsibility for overseeing UCIL’s technical operations, including uranium exploration, mining, ore processing, project development, mine planning, and the implementation of advanced mining technologies.
With extensive experience in the mining and metals sector, Salil Kumar Nag has played an important role at Hindustan Copper Limited, contributing to mine development, operational efficiency, resource management, and the adoption of modern technical practices. His expertise is expected to strengthen UCIL’s technical capabilities as the company continues to expand its operations.
Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), a Government of India enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), is responsible for the exploration, mining, and processing of uranium ore, supplying the country’s nuclear power program with critical raw materials. The organization plays a strategic role in supporting India’s energy security and long-term nuclear energy objectives.
The recommendation of Salil Kumar Nag reflects the government’s continued emphasis on appointing experienced professionals to key leadership positions in strategic public sector enterprises. Industry observers believe his technical expertise and leadership experience could further enhance UCIL’s operational performance, technology adoption, and future expansion projects.
