Dilip Kumar Assumes Charge as Chief Vigilance Officer of Steel Authority of India Limited


New Delhi — Dilip Kumar, a senior officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, has officially taken charge as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), one of India’s largest state-owned steel producers.

The appointment was announced by the Government of India through an official release published on the Press Information Bureau portal, confirming his assumption of office on April 27, 2026.

Extensive Experience in Indian Railways

Dilip Kumar brings over two decades of experience in the Indian Railways, where he has held several senior leadership roles across operations, maintenance, and administration.

His previous assignments include:

  • Additional Divisional Railway Manager in the East Central Railway
  • Chief Workshop Manager at Harnaut, Bihar

Throughout his career, he has been recognized for driving operational efficiency and strengthening administrative systems within key railway divisions.

Innovations and Recognitions

Kumar has been associated with multiple innovations and modernization initiatives in Indian Railways. Notable contributions include:

  • Introduction of the first ISO 9001-certified train in the East Central Railway zone
  • Development of in-situ wheel replacement techniques for freight wagons
  • Leadership in the Madhubani Railway Station beautification project, which received national recognition

His contributions have earned him several honors, including the National Award for Outstanding Services (2016) and the Railway Board Certificate of Excellence for Innovation (2018–19).

Academic and Global Training Background

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, Kumar holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. He has also undergone advanced leadership and technical training at globally recognized institutions, including:

  • INSEAD, Singapore
  • Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector Leadership Institute (ICLIF), Kuala Lumpur
  • Specialized training in wagon bogie design in Chicago, United States

As Chief Vigilance Officer, Kumar will be responsible for overseeing vigilance administration within SAIL, focusing on:
