ONGC Bids Farewell to Director Arunangshu Sarkar After Nearly Four Decades of Service

New Delhi  — Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) on Monday formally marked the superannuation of Arunangshu Sarkar, Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs), concluding a distinguished career that spanned close to 40 years with India’s largest oil and gas producer.

Shri Sarkar joined ONGC in 1987 as a petroleum engineer and steadily rose through the organization to occupy one of its most strategically significant leadership roles. Over the decades, he developed a reputation for combining deep operational expertise with long-term strategic vision—an uncommon blend that shaped both ONGC’s domestic operations and its international footprint.

From Field Operations to Corporate Strategy

During his tenure, Shri Sarkar worked across a wide range of ONGC’s core business functions. His early career was rooted in offshore production operations and the management of crude oil and natural gas processing plants. He later played key roles in surface installations and asset management, including at major producing fields such as the Bassein and Satellite assets.

His career also included extensive international exposure through assignments with ONGC Videsh Limited, where he contributed to upstream operations and partnerships in countries including Sudan, Venezuela, and Mozambique.

In the later phase of his career, Shri Sarkar played a central role in corporate strategy, governance, and institutional strengthening, helping align ONGC’s field-level realities with broader organizational and policy objectives amid a rapidly evolving global energy landscape.

Leadership and Legacy

Colleagues described Shri Sarkar as a leader known for his calm authority, analytical clarity, and inclusive management style. He was widely respected for mentoring teams, strengthening internal capabilities, and guiding the organization through periods of operational and strategic transition.

ONGC officials said his leadership contributed to the development of sustainable energy infrastructure and the expansion of India’s energy presence overseas, while reinforcing the company’s long-term strategic resilience.

A Career Defined by Commitment

Shri Sarkar’s nearly four-decade journey reflects a sustained commitment to operational excellence, strategic foresight, and India’s energy security. As ONGC bid him farewell, the sentiment “Once an ONGCian, always an ONGCian” echoed across the organization, capturing the enduring impact of his service and leadership.
