Phagun Madai 2026 Begins with Blessings of Goddess Danteshwari in Dantewada


Dantewada, Chhattisgarh: The historic Phagun Madai Fair 2026 commenced on Saturday with traditional rituals and special prayers at the revered Maa Danteshwari Temple, the presiding deity of the Bastar region. The 12-day religious festival will continue from February 22 to March 5, drawing lakhs of devotees from across Chhattisgarh and neighboring states.

The festival began with ceremonial worship and Kalash Sthapana (installation of the sacred pot), marking the formal inauguration of the Madai. Throughout the celebration, a different palanquin (Palki) procession will be taken out each day, accompanied by age-old tribal traditions, rituals, and cultural performances.

Authorities have made elaborate security and administrative arrangements in view of the massive footfall expected during the festival.

  • February 22 (Panchami): First Palki procession
  • February 23 (Shashthi): Khor Khundni ritual from 9:00 PM
  • February 24 (Saptami/Ashtami): Naach Mandni dance ritual from 10:00 PM
  • February 25 (Navami): Lamhamar ritual from 1:00 AM
  • February 26 (Dashami): Kodrimar ritual from 2:00 AM
  • February 27 (Ekadashi): Chitalmar ritual from 3:00 AM
  • February 28 (Dwadashi): Ganvarmar ritual from 4:00 AM
  • March 1 (Trayodashi): Aanvaramar and Gari rituals from 10:00 PM
  • March 2 (Chaturdashi): Holika Dahan at 10:00 PM
  • March 3 (Purnima): Rang-Bhang and Paduka Pujan from 10:00 AM
  • March 4 (Pratipada): Main Madai fair begins at 2:00 PM
  • March 5 (Dwitiya): Festival concludes with the farewell of invited deities at 10:00 AM

During the Phagun Madai, the presence of devotees and tribal deities from remote rural areas transforms Dantewada into a vibrant center of faith, tradition, and celebration. The temple committee has appealed to devotees to participate in large numbers and contribute to the successful conduct of this sacred festival.
