SECL Tightens Vigil on Diesel Theft, Deploys Advanced Digital Surveillance System

Bilaspur: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has taken a major step towards completely curbing diesel theft and operational irregularities by implementing an advanced digital monitoring and security system across all its operational areas. The new system enables real-time identification of suspicious vehicle movement, unauthorized activities, and irregular diesel consumption.

All Quick Response Team (QRT) vehicles of SECL have been equipped with state-of-the-art GPS tracking systems. These vehicles are being continuously monitored from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) located at SECL Headquarters, ensuring swift response to any suspicious activity or emergency situation.

In addition, all Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMMs) deployed in SECL mines have been fitted with advanced digital sensors. These sensors provide accurate data on machine location, operating hours, diesel consumption, and any abnormal activity. This technology has proven highly effective in early detection of diesel theft and has significantly enhanced transparency in equipment utilization.

To further strengthen security, SECL is installing RFID-based boom barriers at all its mining areas. Only authorized vehicles equipped with RFID tags will be allowed entry into mine premises. The entry and exit of all vehicles will be automatically recorded digitally, effectively preventing unauthorized movement.

Moreover, GPS systems are being installed in selected contractual vehicles and light motor vehicles (LMVs). Real-time data related to vehicle movement, location, stoppage duration, and route is being integrated with CCTV footage available at the ICCC and analyzed through an AI-based system. This advanced system will automatically detect abnormal movement, unauthorized halts, route deviations, and suspicious patterns, thereby minimizing the possibilities of diesel theft and false reporting.

SECL management has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards diesel theft and any kind of irregularity. Strict and prompt action will be taken against offenders, irrespective of their position.

Through the integration of GPS tracking, digital sensors, RFID barriers, and AI-based surveillance, SECL aims to eliminate diesel theft at its roots and make its operations fully secure, transparent, and efficient. These initiatives are expected to bring significant improvements in safety, efficiency, and overall monitoring mechanisms.
