Strong Quarterly Earnings and Relief in Crude Oil Prices Boost Reliance Shares; Ambani Reclaims Position as India’s Richest Person
New Delhi: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani recorded a sharp increase in his personal wealth on Monday, November 2, as shares of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) surged following the company’s strong September-quarter results. According to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires List, Ambani’s net worth rose by $6.3 billion in a single day, making him the biggest wealth gainer among the world’s billionaires during the period.
Forbes reported that Ambani’s wealth increased by 7.85% to an estimated $88.8 billion. The gain moved him to 23rd place on the global billionaires list, making him the richest person in India.
Gautam Adani ranked 26th globally, with an estimated net worth of $79.12 billion.
Reliance Shares Jump 11.64%
Reliance Industries shares delivered their strongest performance in more than six years, closing 11.64% higher at ₹1,299 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday.
The stock emerged as the biggest gainer on the Nifty 50 index, reflecting strong investor interest following the company’s quarterly earnings announcement. Relief in crude oil prices also supported sentiment towards the energy and refining business.
The rally in Reliance shares was the primary driver behind the sharp increase in Ambani’s wealth, as his personal fortune is closely linked to the performance of the conglomerate.
Net Profit Rises 33.8% to Record ₹29,550 Crore
Reliance Industries reported a 33.8% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the July–September quarter of the current financial year. The company’s net profit reached a record ₹29,550 crore, supported by strong performances in key business segments.
The oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business delivered a robust performance, while growth in the telecommunications segment provided additional support.
These gains helped offset relatively weaker performance in the retail business, contributing to the company’s overall profitability.
The quarterly results strengthened investor confidence in Reliance Industries and helped trigger the sharp rise in its share price.
Ambani Leads India’s Billionaire Rankings
With his net worth estimated at $88.8 billion, Ambani retained his position as India’s richest person, according to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires List.
Adani followed with an estimated fortune of $79.12 billion. The difference between their reported net worths stood at approximately $9.68 billion.
Ambani’s single-day wealth increase of $6.3 billion was significantly higher than the gains recorded by other billionaires on the list.
Spanish retail billionaire Amancio Ortega ranked second among the biggest wealth gainers, adding approximately $1.7 billion to his fortune. Chinese billionaire Zhong Shanshan followed, with his net worth increasing by around $1.5 billion.
The figures highlight the impact that major movements in stock prices can have on the wealth rankings of individuals whose fortunes are closely tied to publicly traded companies.
Reliance Industries Has a Diversified Business Portfolio
Mukesh Ambani serves as chairman and leads Reliance Industries, one of India’s largest diversified business groups.
According to Forbes, the company’s operations span several major sectors, including petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecommunications, retail, media and financial services.
Reliance’s diversified business portfolio gives investors exposure to multiple sectors of the Indian economy. Its performance in energy, refining, telecommunications and retail can influence market sentiment towards the company.
The latest quarterly results and the subsequent rally in its shares once again demonstrated the close relationship between Reliance Industries’ market valuation and Ambani’s position among the world’s wealthiest individuals.
