20 Critical and Strategic Mineral Blocks Offered Under 8th Tranche; Roadshow to Highlight Auction Process, Exploration Potential and Investment Opportunities
Raipur : Chhattisgarh, one of India’s mineral-rich states, is set to host a major roadshow on mineral block auctions in Nava Raipur on Monday, August 31, with a focus on attracting investment and accelerating exploration and mining of critical and strategic minerals.
The roadshow is being organised in connection with the 8th tranche of the auction of critical and strategic mineral blocks by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, and Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey are expected to participate in the event, along with senior government officials, industry representatives, investors and mining-sector experts.
The programme is aimed at showcasing the state’s mineral potential, providing investors with detailed information about the auction process and creating a stronger ecosystem for mineral exploration and investment.
20 Critical and Strategic Mineral Blocks Up for Auction
Under the 8th tranche of auctions for critical and strategic minerals, the Government of India has put 20 mineral blocks up for auction.
These include:
- 3 Mining Lease blocks
- 17 Composite Licence blocks
The blocks cover several minerals considered strategically important for India’s energy security, technological development, industrial growth and national requirements.
The minerals include graphite, rare earth elements, rare metals, vanadium, gallium, titanium, molybdenum and tungsten, among others.
These minerals are increasingly important for sectors such as electric vehicles, batteries, renewable energy, advanced electronics, defence, high-tech manufacturing and energy storage.
Focus on a Modern and Technology-Driven Mineral Sector
The roadshow will also highlight initiatives aimed at making Chhattisgarh’s mineral sector more modern, transparent and technology-driven.
In the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state is scheduled to launch the Tin Portal and e-Ret Sangwari Portal.
The digital initiatives are intended to improve transparency, streamline processes and strengthen technology-based governance in the mineral sector.
The move is part of broader efforts to make mineral-related activities more efficient and investor-friendly.
MoUs to Strengthen Mineral Sector and Skill Development
The event will also witness the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) involving the Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC).
An MoU will be exchanged between CMDC and Indian Overseas Bank, aimed at strengthening cooperation related to the mineral sector and financial support.
Another MoU will be exchanged between CMDC and Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University for training in corundum cutting and polishing.
The training initiative is expected to support skill development and promote value addition in the mineral sector by developing specialised capabilities locally.
Technical Session to Discuss Auctions, Exploration and Investment
A dedicated technical session will be organised during the roadshow to discuss various aspects of mineral block auctions, exploration and investment.
Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited will make a presentation on the mineral blocks proposed for auction.
The session is expected to provide prospective investors with information regarding the mineral potential, exploration status and investment opportunities associated with the blocks.
Investors to Receive Detailed Information on Auction Process
The roadshow will provide detailed information on the mineral auction process and tender documentation.
MSTC will make a presentation on the mineral e-auction process, explaining the procedures and technical aspects involved in participating in online auctions.
The programme will also feature a presentation on the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) scheme.
The presentation will focus on provisions for partial reimbursement of exploration expenditure incurred by holders of composite licences, helping potential investors better understand the financial support available for mineral exploration.
Open House to Facilitate Direct Interaction with Industry
Following the technical session, an open-house discussion will be organised.
Industry representatives, investors, experts and other stakeholders will have an opportunity to interact directly with officials and technical experts.
The discussion is expected to cover key issues related to:
- Mineral block auctions
- Mineral resource potential
- Exploration opportunities
- Investment prospects
- Auction procedures
- Technical and administrative challenges
The open-house format is expected to provide investors with an opportunity to raise queries and obtain greater clarity on the auction and investment process.
Review Meeting to Assess Progress
A review meeting will also be held to assess the progress of mineral block-related activities.
The meeting will review the status of mineral blocks, exploration activities, auction-related work and future plans.
The exercise is expected to strengthen coordination between the Central and Chhattisgarh governments while improving cooperation among various departments, industry players and other stakeholders.
Why the Roadshow Matters for Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh is among India’s major mineral-producing states and has significant resources of coal, iron ore, bauxite, limestone and several other minerals.
The growing national focus on critical and strategic minerals gives the state an opportunity to play a larger role in India’s emerging critical-mineral supply chain.
Demand for critical minerals is increasing rapidly due to the expansion of electric mobility, battery storage, renewable energy, electronics, defence and advanced manufacturing.
Developing domestic exploration and production capabilities is therefore increasingly important for India’s economic and strategic self-reliance.
Potential for Investment and Employment
The auction of mineral blocks and development of new mining projects could generate significant opportunities for investment in Chhattisgarh.
Apart from direct investment in mining and exploration, the development of mineral blocks can create indirect opportunities in:
- Mineral processing
- Transportation
- Logistics
- Equipment and engineering
- Skill development
- Mineral-based manufacturing
- Local services
Greater focus on value addition could also help Chhattisgarh move beyond the extraction of raw minerals and develop a more integrated mineral-based industrial ecosystem.
Strengthening Centre-State-Industry Coordination
The participation of Central and state government representatives, investors, mining companies, industry representatives and experts is expected to make the roadshow an important platform for collaboration.
Such programmes can help investors understand government policies and auction procedures while providing policymakers with direct feedback from industry stakeholders.
The interaction could also help identify operational challenges and facilitate smoother implementation of mineral exploration and mining projects.
