Janjgir-Champa Enters Golden Book of World Records for Largest Cyber Awareness Rakhi Campaign

Janjgir-Champa Police created a record by tying “Ek Rakhi Cyber Jagrukta Ki” to more than one lakh people within one hour across villages, wards, government institutions, industries and gram panchayats.

Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh: A major cyber-awareness initiative organised by Janjgir-Champa Police has brought recognition to the district after the campaign was included in the Golden Book of World Records. Under the unique initiative titled “Ek Rakhi Cyber Jagrukta Ki” (One Rakhi for Cyber Awareness), more than one lakh people were reportedly tied a cyber-awareness rakhi within a single hour.

The campaign was organised with the objective of spreading awareness about increasing cybercrime, online fraud, digital scams and safe use of the internet among people across the district.

Cyber Awareness Message Reaches More Than One Lakh People

As part of the record-setting campaign, cyber-awareness rakhis were tied simultaneously to people at multiple locations across Janjgir-Champa.

The initiative covered 432 villages and wards, along with government establishments, industries and 336 gram panchayats.

The simultaneous participation made the campaign particularly significant, as the message of cyber safety was taken beyond urban centres and directly to rural communities and institutions.

The central message of the campaign was simple but important: every citizen should remain alert while using digital services and should take precautions against cyber fraud.

“Ek Rakhi Cyber Jagrukta Ki” Campaign

The campaign used the traditional significance of Rakhi to deliver a modern social message.

Instead of limiting Rakhi to the traditional brother-sister relationship, the police used it as a symbol of protection from cybercrime. Participants tied the special cyber-awareness rakhi and pledged to remain vigilant against online fraud.

The initiative aimed to make cyber safety easier for ordinary citizens to understand and remember.

Through the campaign, people were encouraged to follow basic precautions such as:

  • Never share OTP, PIN, CVV or passwords with anyone.
  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links received through SMS, WhatsApp, email or social media.
  • Do not share banking or UPI credentials with unknown persons.
  • Verify the identity of people making calls regarding bank accounts, KYC, lottery, jobs or government schemes.
  • Avoid installing applications from unknown or unverified sources.
  • Be cautious while making online payments.
  • Report suspicious transactions immediately to the concerned authorities.

Campaign Conducted Across 432 Villages and Wards

One of the most important aspects of the initiative was its extensive geographical reach.

The programme was simultaneously conducted across 432 villages and wards, ensuring that the cyber-awareness message reached people at the grassroots level.

The campaign also included:

336 Gram Panchayats:
People in gram panchayat areas participated in the awareness drive, helping extend the campaign into rural parts of the district.

Government Establishments:
Employees and officials at government institutions were also brought into the awareness campaign.

Industries:
Industrial establishments in the district participated in the initiative, helping spread cyber-safety awareness among workers and employees.

More Than One Lakh Participants in One Hour

According to the information provided for the campaign, more than one lakh people participated within a period of one hour.

The simultaneous nature of the activity was a key feature of the record attempt. Instead of conducting the programme at one location, the police coordinated activities across hundreds of locations throughout the district.

This large-scale participation demonstrated the importance of cyber-awareness in an increasingly digital society.

Golden Book of World Records Recognition

The achievement has been recognised by the Golden Book of World Records, giving the Janjgir-Champa district an important place in the record book for the large-scale cyber-awareness initiative.

The recognition is significant because the campaign combined a traditional cultural symbol—Rakhi—with a contemporary public-safety message concerning cybercrime.

The initiative also demonstrates how police departments can use community participation and innovative communication methods to spread awareness about emerging forms of crime.

Why Cyber Awareness Is Important

With the rapid growth of digital payments, online banking, social media and smartphone usage, cyber fraud has become a major concern.

Fraudsters frequently use methods such as:

  • Fake customer-care numbers
  • Fraudulent KYC updates
  • OTP scams
  • UPI payment fraud
  • Fake investment schemes
  • Online job scams
  • Digital arrest scams
  • Phishing links
  • Social-media impersonation
  • Fake government scheme offers

Many victims lose money because they share confidential information or transfer funds after receiving fraudulent calls or messages.

The Janjgir-Champa Police campaign therefore focused on making cyber safety a community responsibility.

A Message Beyond the Record

The significance of the initiative goes beyond its inclusion in the Golden Book of World Records. Its primary objective was to ensure that people understand that cybercrime can affect anyone, irrespective of age, profession or location.

By involving villages, gram panchayats, government institutions and industries simultaneously, the police attempted to turn cyber awareness into a mass public movement.

The use of a Rakhi as the symbol of cyber protection also made the message culturally relatable and easier for people to remember.

Janjgir-Champa Sets an Example

The “Ek Rakhi Cyber Jagrukta Ki” initiative has highlighted the potential of innovative public-awareness campaigns in addressing modern challenges.

The participation of more than one lakh people within an hour, across 432 villages and wards, 336 gram panchayats, government establishments and industries, represents a large-scale coordinated effort.

With the recognition in the Golden Book of World Records, the campaign has added another dimension to Janjgir-Champa’s efforts to promote cyber safety and public awareness.
