Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil were travelling in the Innova; all injured reported stable
New Delhi: Six people, including Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil, were injured after an allegedly speeding Swift car lost control, crossed a divider and collided head-on with an Innova near Delhi’s ITO intersection on Sunday night.
The accident reportedly took place at around 9:30 pm near the PWD office at the ITO intersection. According to police, all those involved sustained minor injuries and were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable.
Swift Loses Control and Crosses Divider
According to Delhi Police, the IP Estate police station received information about the road accident through a PCR call at around 9:30 pm.
Police teams immediately reached the spot.
Preliminary investigation found that the Swift was being driven by 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey, who was travelling from the Laxmi Nagar side towards ITO. His wife and two minor children were also reportedly travelling in the vehicle.
Near the PWD office, the Swift suddenly went out of control and crashed into the road divider.
The impact caused the vehicle to cross the divider railing and enter the opposite carriageway, where it collided head-on with an Innova travelling from ITO towards Laxmi Nagar.
Two MLAs Were Travelling in Innova
The Innova was carrying Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil.
The collision was reportedly strong enough to damage both vehicles and disrupt traffic at the busy intersection.
Following the crash, a large crowd gathered at the scene and traffic movement was severely affected, resulting in a major jam around ITO.
The Delhi Fire Service was also called to the spot. The damaged vehicles were subsequently removed from the road to restore traffic movement.
All Six Injured, Condition Stable
According to DCP Central Rohit Rajbir Singh, everyone involved in the accident sustained minor injuries.
All the injured were immediately shifted to LNJP Hospital, where doctors reported their condition as stable.
Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that caused the Swift to lose control.
Forensic Team Collects Evidence
Police said a forensic team examined the accident site and collected relevant evidence.
Investigators are also questioning eyewitnesses to establish the sequence of events and determine the cause of the collision.
The police investigation is currently underway.
