Veteran Mining Engineer Anand Mohan Takes Charge as Director (Technical) at CMPDI


Ranchi, India: Anand Mohan has officially assumed charge as Director (Technical) at Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), marking a significant leadership transition within India’s coal mining research and consultancy sector.

The appointment became effective on May 11, 2026, and places the veteran mining professional in charge of several strategic technical and research functions under the umbrella of Coal India Limited, the world’s largest coal-producing company.

Industry officials say the leadership change comes at an important time as India continues modernizing its mining operations, expanding energy infrastructure, and increasing focus on sustainable and technology-driven coal production.

More Than Three Decades of Mining Experience

Anand Mohan brings over 36 years of experience in India’s coal and mining industry, having served in multiple senior leadership roles across several major Coal India subsidiaries.

Before joining CMPDI as Director (Technical), he held key positions at:

  • Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL)
  • Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)
  • Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL)

Throughout his career, he has been associated with large-scale mining operations, mine planning, project execution, environmental initiatives, and modernization programs across India’s coal sector.

Academic and Professional Credentials

Mohan graduated in Mining Engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka in 1989 and began his professional career the same year at NCL’s Amlohri Project.

He later earned a Master of Technology degree in Open Cast Mining from the Indian School of Mines in 2005, strengthening his expertise in advanced mining technologies and operational management.

He also holds the prestigious First-Class Mines Manager’s Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), one of the highest professional certifications in India’s mining industry.
