New Delhi | Marking a significant milestone in India–Russia cooperation, Patanjali Group has entered into a strategic agreement with the Government of Russia to promote wellness, Ayurveda, yoga, naturopathy and skilled labour exchange between the two nations. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed shortly after President Vladimir Putin’s successful visit to India for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit.
The MoU was formally signed in New Delhi by Patanjali founder Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and Sergey Cheremin, Chairman of the Indo–Russia Business Council and Minister of Commerce of Russia. Senior officials, business leaders and representatives from both sides were present during the signing ceremony.
Scope of the Partnership
The agreement has three major pillars:
- Wellness and Preventive Healthcare
- Skilled Labour Collaboration
- Spiritual and Cultural Content Exchange
The initiative aims not only to strengthen bilateral economic ties but also to foster cultural understanding and globalise India’s traditional health systems.
Wellness and Ayurveda to Expand Deeply in Russia
Speaking at the event, Baba Ramdev announced that Patanjali will introduce large-scale wellness services across Russia due to the rising popularity of yoga, naturopathy and Ayurveda among Russian citizens.
“We plan to take wellness to 200 countries, and Russia has been chosen as the gateway,” he said.
The collaboration includes:
- Establishment of Ayurveda and wellness centres in multiple Russian cities
- Supply of Patanjali health products to Russian markets
- Joint medical research in areas such as anti-ageing, longevity and early preventive disease diagnosis
According to Patanjali, research teams from both nations will work together to develop technologies that can detect serious illnesses several years before they manifest in the human body.
Spiritual Content and Cultural Exchange
Ramdev highlighted that Russian audiences have shown substantial interest in yoga and Indian cultural philosophy.
Under the MoU, Patanjali will:
- Provide Russia with authentic spiritual, yoga and Ayurveda-related digital content
- Promote India’s cultural heritage globally through online and broadcast platforms
- Organise special yoga events and cultural festivals in Russia
Export of Skilled Labour and Trained Yogis
Another key component of the agreement focuses on the deployment of trained professionals in Russia.
“We will export trained yogis to Russia, along with skilled labour for various sectors,” Ramdev said.
The Patanjali Group has already trained more than two lakh youth under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, making it the only private organisation to achieve this target so far.
Russia is expected to benefit from:
- Certified yoga trainers
- Skilled construction workforce
- Technicians and other trained manpower based on demand
Boost to Trade and Branding
As part of the collaboration:
- Leading Indian brands will be promoted and distributed in Russia
- Russian brands will be introduced and supported in Indian markets
Patanjali says this will lead to a mutually beneficial trade ecosystem, strengthening economic interdependence.
India–Russia Friendship Highlighted
Baba Ramdev said Indo–Russian ties have always been based on trust.
“Even before independence, India had an emotional bond with Russia. Under every circumstance, Russia was, is and will remain India’s true friend,” he remarked.
He also praised President Putin as a global leader whose courage and leadership are respected internationally.
Russia Confident in Partnership
Russian Minister Sergey Cheremin said the collaboration would play a transformative role in public health and wellness in Russia.
“By adopting Patanjali’s yoga, Ayurveda and naturopathy, we aim to bring a healthier and disease-free lifestyle to Russia. We are committed to strengthening this partnership further,” he said.
A Step Towards Global Expansion
The MoU is expected to pave the way for:
- Future India–Russia joint ventures in the wellness sector
- Student exchange programs focused on Ayurveda and naturopathy
- Training institutes and research centres across Russia
Industry experts say the partnership could position India as a global leader in preventive healthcare and traditional medicine, while giving Russia access to emerging wellness technologies and skilled workforce.
