Durg: A shocking knife attack in the Chhavni area of Durg has sparked fear among residents after a young man was critically injured for resisting a robbery attempt on Saturday evening.
According to police, the victim, identified as Ritik, was returning home after shopping at a local market when he was surrounded by miscreants in the jurisdiction of Chhavni Police Station. The attackers allegedly demanded cash and his mobile phone. When Ritik resisted, one of the assailants pulled out a knife and stabbed him multiple times in the middle of the road.
The injured youth collapsed at the spot, bleeding heavily. The attackers fled before local residents could intervene. With the help of bystanders, Ritik was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Rising Fear in the Area
The daylight knife attack has created panic in the Chhavni locality. Residents say street crime has increased sharply, making even routine movement unsafe. Locals allege that criminals are operating fearlessly and are willing to take lives over small amounts of money.
Police officials said they are examining CCTV footage from the area and conducting raids to trace the accused. A search operation is underway, and authorities have assured swift action.
Repeated Incidents Raise Questions
This is not the first such incident in Durg. Cases of stabbing and street robbery have been reported frequently in recent months. The opposition Congress party has repeatedly protested against the rising crime rate in the city, accusing the administration of failing to ensure public safety.
Despite police claims of taking strict measures after every incident, criminals continue to carry out violent crimes and escape, raising serious concerns about law and order in the city.
