Jara Sofija Ostan has won the Silver Peacock for Best Actor (Female) for her remarkable performance in the Slovenian film Little Trouble Girls at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The prestigious honour includes the Silver Peacock Trophy, a Certificate of Merit, and a cash prize of ₹10,00,000.
The award was presented by Goa Chief Minister Shri Pramod Sawant and Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan, in the presence of Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting; IFFI Jury Chairperson Shri Rakesh Omprakash Mehra; and Festival Director Shri Shekhar Kapur.
Jury Applauds an Exceptionally Expressive and Emotionally Truthful Performance
The IFFI Jury praised Jara Sofija Ostan for delivering a performance defined by delicacy, depth, and emotional precision. The citation highlighted how her character’s inner world was reflected through the finest shifts in expression, with the jury stating that her face could be “read like a book.”
“For her remarkably subtle and deeply expressive performance, we felt we could read her face like a book. Much is said through the simplest, most truthful, tiniest expressions and extremely delicate gestures — inviting us to complete what remains unspoken,” the Jury remarked.
They added that Jara Sofija Ostan led the audience on a profound inner journey — portraying a young girl discovering desire, courage, and ultimately herself.
The Silver Peacock honour for Little Trouble Girls adds to the film’s growing recognition on the global stage and celebrates a performance that connects deeply with audiences through nuance, honesty, and emotional resonance.
