HPCL, Oil India Sign MoU to Develop Compressed Bio-Gas Project at India Energy Week 2026


Mumbai |Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) project, marking a key step toward advancing cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions in India.

The agreement was formalized during India Energy Week 2026 and reflects the growing commitment of India’s public sector energy companies to support the country’s energy transition and climate goals.

Under the MoU, Oil India Limited will implement the CBG project, while HPCL will provide its indigenous HP RAMP technology, which enables efficient conversion of organic waste into compressed bio-gas. OIL will leverage its operational and project execution expertise to ensure successful implementation.

Boost to Waste-to-Energy and Circular Economy

The partnership underscores a shared focus on waste-to-energy initiatives, promotion of the circular economy, and reduction of carbon emissions. By utilizing homegrown technology, the project is expected to strengthen India’s domestic bio-energy ecosystem and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Officials said the initiative aligns with national efforts to scale up bio-energy adoption and supports long-term sustainability and decarbonization objectives.

The MoU highlights the increasing emphasis among Indian energy companies on green energy innovation and environmentally responsible practices.
