New Delhi : The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a six-month extension in service for Siddh Nath Gupta, Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP), West Bengal.
The decision follows a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and will take effect beyond April 30, 2026.
Extension Granted in Public Interest
The extension has been granted in public interest through relaxation of Rule 16(1) of the AIS (DCRB) Rules, 1958, which govern service conditions for All India Services officers. Such relaxations are typically approved in cases where continuity in leadership is considered essential for administrative stability and operational effectiveness.
Ensuring Continuity in State Police Leadership
Gupta, a 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the West Bengal cadre, currently heads the stateโs police force. His continued tenure is expected to ensure stability in law enforcement leadership and support ongoing policing and security initiatives across the state.
The extension comes at a time when maintaining continuity in senior leadership is seen as critical for effective governance, coordination, and public safety management.
