New Delhi/Bilaspur: In a significant step toward addressing the growing traffic congestion in Bilaspur, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs and Bilaspur Member of Parliament Tokhan Sahu met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to seek expedited approval and implementation of the proposed four-lane Ring Road Project for the city.
During the meeting, Tokhan Sahu emphasized that the rapidly increasing volume of traffic in Bilaspur has made the construction of a modern four-lane ring road an urgent necessity. The ambitious infrastructure project, estimated to cost ₹827.20 crore, is expected to provide a long-term solution to the city’s traffic bottlenecks while significantly improving urban mobility.
According to the proposal, the Ring Road will connect National Highway (NH)-130, NH-130A, and NH-49, creating an alternative route for heavy commercial and freight vehicles. This will substantially reduce the movement of large trucks through the city’s core areas, easing traffic congestion and improving road safety for daily commuters.
The Union Minister highlighted that the project would not only streamline transportation but also strengthen connectivity between industrial, commercial, and residential zones across Bilaspur. Improved road infrastructure is expected to reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, enhance logistics efficiency, and support the city’s expanding urban landscape.
Tokhan Sahu also informed the Union Minister that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently advancing the project’s preparatory work, including the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), traffic survey, and draft alignment. He urged the Ministry to ensure that these processes are completed at the earliest so that the project can receive formal approval without unnecessary delays.
Responding positively to the proposal, Nitin Gadkari assured Tokhan Sahu that the matter would receive due attention. He reportedly directed the concerned officials to accelerate the necessary procedures and facilitate timely progress on the project.
Once completed, the Bilaspur Four-Lane Ring Road is expected to transform the city’s transportation network by reducing congestion, improving traffic flow, and supporting future economic growth. The project is also anticipated to enhance regional connectivity, encourage industrial investment, promote urban development, and improve the overall quality of life for residents by making daily travel safer, faster, and more efficient.
The proposed ring road is being viewed as one of the most important infrastructure initiatives for Bilaspur, with the potential to strengthen the city’s role as a key commercial and transportation hub in Chhattisgarh.
