Rahul Gandhi Challenges PM Modi to Open Debate on ‘Foreign Connections’ and Other Issues

New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday intensified his challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open public debate. He focused on allegations related to “anti-national” forces, foreign connections, the financial system, a recent American deal, the Adani case, and the Epstein matter.

Gandhi posted a poll on social media platform X, asking young Indians whether they wanted to see the two leaders face each other in a discussion. He tagged senior BJP leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging them to persuade the Prime Minister to accept the challenge.

The poll offered two options:

  • “Yes – Modi ji, don’t be afraid”
  • “No – Modi ji, got scared”

This latest post followed Gandhi’s earlier challenge in which he asked Prime Minister Modi to debate allegations of foreign links. He said the discussion could take place at any venue and even suggested that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat could act as the judge.

Gandhi’s Challenge

In an earlier post, Gandhi wrote:
“Modi ji, it has been 24 hours since I challenged you. You say the Opposition is anti-national. Choose any stage, any place, and debate with me on this — who is anti-national? Whose connections are there with foreign forces? And what is the nature of those connections? Let’s do this as soon as possible. Don’t be afraid!”

He proposed a simple format: both leaders would sit across a table, with the media and the country’s youth present. The Prime Minister would be free to choose the moderator or judge — even Mohan Bhagwat.

Gandhi listed several issues he wanted to discuss openly:

  • The financial system and financial structure
  • How and why the American deal happened so quickly
  • Why it was done alone without informing the Cabinet
  • Why the Adani case was closed
  • The Epstein matter
  • Other related questions

“We will talk openly on all of this. Let the truth come out. Everything should become completely clear,” he said.

Defamation Case Challenge

Gandhi also dared the Prime Minister to file a defamation case against him on the foreign connections issue.
“You accuse me, right? Come forward. Everything will become clear. You have filed defamation cases against me in other matters. I think there are about 45 defamation cases against me. But on this issue of foreign connections, you have not filed a defamation case. Go ahead, file one. We will discuss that openly too. Happy Diwali, Modi ji,” he posted.

Background of the Controversy

The latest challenge comes after Rahul Gandhi’s earlier allegations that Prime Minister Modi became and remained Prime Minister with foreign help, and that India’s financial system is controlled and supported by foreign forces. He had also claimed that foreign social media fully supports the Prime Minister.

In a previous post, Gandhi had written:
“Mr Modi, stop lying to this country. You became PM because of foreign help. You remain PM because of foreign help. Your financial system is completely controlled and supported by foreigners. Foreign social media fully supports you. I challenge you to an open debate on this. Any stage, anytime. If you have the courage, come. You will not come, because you are afraid of what I know about you.”

The exchange followed remarks made by Prime Minister Modi on National Unity Day. While addressing a programme at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, the Prime Minister had criticised the Opposition for acting as an obstructive force instead of fulfilling its democratic responsibilities. He also alleged that certain forces were conspiring to divide the country and raised questions about alleged foreign support and activities abroad.

The political confrontation continues to intensify on social media, with both sides trading sharp accusations.
