Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and sought the establishment of a medical college in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh.
New Delhi: Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu met Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and raised the demand for establishing a medical college in Mungeli district, which falls under his parliamentary constituency.
During the meeting, Sahu apprised Nadda of the need for a medical college in Mungeli and said that the demand has been pending for a long time and has been consistently raised by local public representatives and residents.
Sahu pointed out that the absence of a medical college at the district headquarters forces students from Mungeli to travel to other districts for medical education. At present, the nearest medical college is located in Bilaspur, approximately 55 kilometres from Mungeli.
Medical College to Strengthen Education and Healthcare
Sahu said that establishing a medical college in Mungeli would provide students from the district with better opportunities to pursue medical education closer to home. It would also significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The proposed medical college would benefit not only residents of Mungeli but also people living in rural and remote areas of the district and neighbouring regions by providing access to better medical services and specialist healthcare facilities.
Tokhan Sahu Seeks Centre’s Intervention

He said that issues related to the development of Mungeli district and the needs of its residents are being consistently raised before the Central Government, with efforts underway to find solutions on a priority basis.
Sahu also highlighted the importance of strengthening medical education and healthcare facilities in the region to meet the growing needs of the local population.
