Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh: A joyous wedding celebration turned into chaos late Tuesday night after a truck rammed into a group of wedding guests dancing in a procession in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district. Several people, including women, were injured in the horrific road accident.
According to local authorities, the wedding procession was moving along the road around midnight, with guests dancing and celebrating as part of traditional festivities. Suddenly, a capsule truck parked behind the procession was started by its driver, who drove straight into the crowd of dancers.
The impact caused panic and confusion at the scene, with screams and chaos breaking out as people rushed to help the injured. Ambulances were immediately called, and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Four Women Injured, Treatment Ongoing
Among the injured were four women who were dancing in the procession. Notably, Sarangarh District Congress President Tara Devangan was also present at the event. While she was involved in the incident, officials confirmed that she did not sustain any injuries.
The wedding was of the cousin of the Sarangarh District Congress President. The procession had traveled from Sarangarh and was passing through the Birra-Ghivra Road area of Janjgir district en route to Bhatapara when the accident occurred.
Driver Arrested, Vehicle Seized
Police have taken the capsule truck into custody and arrested the driver. A medical examination was conducted to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Officials stated that the driver was not intoxicated.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether negligence was involved. Police assured that strict action would be taken based on the findings.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about road safety during wedding processions and the risks posed by heavy vehicles on public roads.
