Sick Bear Rescued After Repeatedly Entering Residential Area in Khadgawan

MCB, India: A sick and weakened bear that had been repeatedly wandering into a residential area of Khadgawan was successfully rescued by the Forest Department with assistance from the Animal Husbandry Department, officials said on Tuesday.

Due to shrinking forests, food scarcity, and lack of water, wild animals are increasingly straying into human settlements. Local residents reported that the bear had been entering the village almost daily, especially during nighttime, creating fear among villagers.

According to locals, the bear appeared visibly ill and lacked agility, likely due to prolonged hunger and dehydration. Concerned about both public safety and the animal’s health, villagers informed forest officials and requested immediate medical intervention.

Responding to the alert, teams from the Forest Department and Animal Husbandry Department reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation. After safely restraining the animal, veterinarians conducted a preliminary medical examination and administered two bottles of glucose intravenously to stabilize its condition.

“The bear was found in a very weak state during the rescue. After initial treatment and glucose infusion, its condition has improved significantly. The animal is now out of danger but will be kept under observation,” said Vinod Singh, an official from the Animal Husbandry Department in Khadgawan.

Local resident Dhananjay Pandey said the bear was frequently seen roaming near houses at night. “We informed the Forest Department so that the bear could receive proper treatment. After medical care, it looks much better now,” he said.

Forest officials confirmed that once the bear fully recovers, it will be safely released back into a protected forest area.
