President Droupadi Murmu Praises ‘Jashcraft’ and Tribal Women’s Skills at Inter-State Cultural Meet


President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on Monday lauded the craftsmanship, skills and self-reliance of tribal women from Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district during the Inter-State Tribal Cultural Conclave ‘Kartik Jatra’ held at Manjhatoli in Gumla district of Jharkhand.

The President specially appreciated the work of tribal women associated with ‘Jashcraft’, noting that the jewellery and eco-friendly products made by them are strong examples of women empowerment and self-reliance. She described these creations as symbols of tribal creativity, cultural preservation and sustainable livelihoods.

President Murmu also praised the women of the self-help groups from Kotapan i village under the Shabd Munda Forest Management Committee, Jashpur Forest Division, stating that their efforts not only generate income but also provide a new identity to traditional tribal art and handicrafts. She emphasized the importance of connecting youth and future generations with tribal traditions while moving confidently on the path of modern development.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, who attended the event, said that the appreciation expressed by the President is a matter of pride for the entire state. He highlighted that the skills and self-reliance of Jashpur’s tribal women, especially those associated with Jashcraft, reflect the state’s rich cultural heritage and the creativity of its women.

“The President’s encouragement will further strengthen the confidence of tribal women and reinforce the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local,” the Chief Minister said, expressing gratitude to the President on behalf of all tribal women of Jashpur.

An exhibition showcasing tribal handicrafts, folk art and products made by self-help groups remained a major attraction during the program. The Chhattisgarh delegation showcased Jashpur’s distinctive craft traditions, conveying a strong message of tribal empowerment.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sai said that the Kartik Jatra is not only a celebration of cultural heritage but also a bridge connecting tribal communities across states. He recalled the contributions of tribal icons such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Kartika Oraon, who worked for social unity, education and preservation of tribal identity.

The Chief Minister also spoke about development in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, stating that due to the strong leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the region is witnessing rapid progress. He said that over 400 villages have been freed from the influence of extremism, with improved access to roads, electricity, healthcare, education and other basic facilities.

Highlighting tourism as a key focus area, the Chief Minister said that efforts are underway to create new employment opportunities for local youth. He also remembered former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership the states of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand were formed, enabling them to move forward with distinct identities and accelerated development.

The event concluded with optimism that such cultural exchanges will continue to promote peace, unity, development and a decisive victory over extremism in the years to come.
