ONGC Mumbai Distributes Bicycles and Academic Kits to 350 Girls on Gudi Padwa, Boosting Access to Education

Mumbai : In a strong push toward promoting girls’ education and safety, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Mumbai, in collaboration with the Centre for Transforming India, distributed bicycles and academic kits to 350 girl students across Zilla Parishad schools in Maharashtra.

The initiative, launched on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, covered schools in Kherane, Bhatan, and Chindhran villages near Mumbai. It aims to remove barriers to education and improve overall student well-being.

Reducing Distance, Increasing Opportunity

For many of the beneficiaries, reaching school meant walking nearly 3 kilometers daily—often leading to fatigue, safety concerns, and inconsistent attendance.

With the introduction of bicycles:

  • Students now have safe and faster transportation
  • Attendance is expected to improve significantly
  • Girls gain greater independence and confidence

The academic kits—containing essential study materials—further ensure that students have the resources they need to succeed in the classroom.

Aligned with National Education Goals

This initiative reflects ONGC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes equitable access to quality education.

By addressing both mobility and learning needs, the program goes beyond infrastructure support and focuses on holistic student development.

Empowering Girls, Strengthening Communities

The broader impact of the initiative extends beyond individual students. By enabling girls to attend school regularly and safely, the program contributes to:

  • Higher enrollment and attendance rates
  • Improved academic performance
  • Increased awareness about the importance of girls’ education
  • Greater community engagement in educational development

Each bicycle symbolizes more than just transportation—it represents freedom, dignity, and opportunity. Likewise, each academic kit reflects a commitment to nurturing young minds and building a stronger, more inclusive future.

A Step Toward Inclusive Growth

As Oil and Natural Gas Corporation continues to expand its CSR footprint, initiatives like this highlight the critical role of corporate participation in social development.

By investing in education and empowering young girls, ONGC is not only supporting individual dreams but also contributing to long-term societal transformation in India.
