Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh — Senior officials from the Arunachal Pradesh government on Saturday conducted a high-level review of the ongoing construction of NHPC Limited’s 2,880-megawatt Dibang Multipurpose Project, one of India’s largest hydropower developments.
The inspection was led by State Tourism, Rural Works, Parliamentary Affairs and Libraries Minister Passang Dorjee Sona. He was accompanied by the MLA from Roing, who also serves as Advisor to the Home and Education Minister, the MLA from Dambuk, Tourism Secretary Ramphoa Ngowa, the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Dibang Valley, and other senior state officials.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed key components of the strategically important hydropower project, including dam construction, infrastructure development, and associated facilities.
NHPC’s Executive Director and Head of the Project, Narendra Kumar, briefed the visiting dignitaries on the current status of construction activities and highlighted progress achieved across major work fronts. He also acknowledged the continued cooperation and support provided by the Arunachal Pradesh government in facilitating smooth project execution.
Minister Sona praised the scale and pace of construction and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the project’s timely completion. He emphasized that the Dibang project would play a crucial role in driving regional development, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening India’s renewable energy capacity.
Once completed, the Dibang Multipurpose Project is expected to significantly boost hydropower generation in India’s Northeast, contributing to long-term energy security and sustainable development in the region.
