Raipur meeting to gather views from community intellectuals and legal experts; written suggestions to be submitted before the state UCC committee

Raipur : Preparations for the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Chhattisgarh are gaining momentum, with the state government-appointed committee seeking views and suggestions from citizens and different sections of society.

As part of the consultation process, the Raipur Muslim community will hold a one-day meeting on September 1 to discuss the UCC and compile suggestions to be submitted to the state’s Uniform Civil Code committee.

The information was shared by Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board Chairman Dr Salim Raj.

Muslim Community Meeting in Raipur

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 1, at the Guru Ghasidas Auditorium in Raipur.

The event is aimed at bringing together intellectuals, legal experts and representatives from the Muslim community to discuss various aspects of the proposed Uniform Civil Code and gather their views.

The suggestions received during the meeting will subsequently be compiled and formally submitted to the state UCC committee.

To ensure wider participation, information about the meeting has reportedly been communicated through announcements at mosques across Raipur during Friday prayers.

Written Suggestions Invited

The Chhattisgarh Waqf Board has appealed to members of the community to submit their suggestions regarding the UCC in written form.

The suggestions are to be addressed to the Chairperson, Uniform Civil Code Committee, Chhattisgarh, and are to be submitted in two copies.

The written submissions are expected to cover legal, social and community-related concerns and suggestions concerning the proposed code.

City Qazi to Attend as Chief Guest

City Qazi Dr Mohammad Imran Ashrafi will attend the meeting as the chief guest.

The meeting will be chaired by senior advocate Faisal Rizvi.

The participants are expected to discuss various legal and social aspects of the proposed UCC and formulate a consolidated set of suggestions representing the views expressed during the meeting.

Suggestions to Be Presented to UCC Committee at 4 PM

Following the discussion, the suggestions prepared on behalf of the Muslim community will be compiled and presented before the Uniform Civil Code Committee at 4 PM on September 1.

The submission will provide an opportunity for the community to formally place its views and concerns before the committee as part of its ongoing consultation process.

Chhattisgarh Government Formed UCC Committee in April 2026

The Chhattisgarh government constituted a committee for examining the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code in the state on April 15, 2026.

The committee is headed by retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.

The committee has been tasked with examining various aspects of the proposed Uniform Civil Code and preparing a framework or draft for the state.

As part of the process, the committee is seeking suggestions from citizens and different sections of society before finalising its recommendations.

Why the Consultation Process Matters

The Uniform Civil Code is a significant legal and social issue involving areas such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption and personal laws.

Given the wide-ranging implications of such provisions, consultations with different communities, legal experts, civil society organisations and citizens can provide the committee with diverse perspectives before it prepares its proposed framework.

The Raipur meeting is part of this broader consultation process, allowing members of the Muslim community to present their views and suggestions directly to the committee.
