Kanker, Chhattisgarh: In a significant step toward enhancing women’s safety and preventing crimes against women, the Kanker District Police have officially launched a special initiative called the “Women Defense Team.”
The initiative aims to ensure the safety of women and girls, prevent crimes against them, provide quick assistance during emergencies, and create a safer environment across both urban and rural areas of the district.
As part of the program, the Women Defense Team will conduct regular patrols at schools, colleges, hostels, and other public places. Women and girls will be educated on how to register complaints online through the Abhivyakti App and offline through complaint boxes (SHe-Boxes) installed at designated locations. The team will also guide victims on the grievance redressal process.
Additionally, awareness camps will be organized at fairs, weekly markets, and community gatherings. Through these outreach programs, women and girls will receive detailed information on domestic violence, good touch and bad touch awareness, child-related crimes, child marriage, child labor, human trafficking, the POCSO Act, cybercrime prevention, safe use of social media, self-defense techniques, and the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative.

To ensure immediate assistance, the police have also launched a dedicated women’s safety helpline: 📞 94791-55925. Authorities have assured that all information received through the helpline will be kept strictly confidential, and the identity of informants will be protected.
The Kanker Police described the Women Defense Team as an innovative and proactive initiative aimed at empowering women, increasing public awareness, and strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community.
