Government Approves Additional Charge for Som Raj as Director (Finance) at SCI

New Delhi: The Government of India has granted ex-post facto approval for the continuation of additional charge held by Shri Som Raj as Director (Finance) of Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI).

The approval was accorded by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Under the decision, Som Raj will hold the additional charge for a period of three months with effect from January 1, 2026, or until a regular incumbent assumes charge, or until further orders—whichever occurs first.

SCI informed stock exchanges that the government has approved this further extension to ensure continuity in the company’s financial leadership during the interim period.

Som Raj currently serves as Director (Personnel & Administration) at SCI, a position he assumed on July 15, 2025. In addition to his responsibilities at SCI, he also holds the charge of Director (Operations) at Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Ltd. (SCILAL) and serves as an Additional Director at Inland Coastal Shipping Ltd. (ICSL).

The move is seen as part of the government’s effort to maintain operational and financial stability at India’s largest state-owned shipping company while the process for appointing a regular Director (Finance) is underway.
