EIL and GAIL Commission 60 KTPA Polypropylene Project at Pata Petrochemical Complex

New Delhi: Engineers India Limited (EIL), in partnership with GAIL (India) Limited, has successfully commissioned a 60 kilotonnes per annum (KTPA) Polypropylene (PP) plant at GAIL’s Pata Petrochemical Complex, marking a key milestone in India’s expanding petrochemical sector.

With the facility now fully operational, the new unit will produce three advanced grades of polypropylene—homopolymer, impact polymer, and copolymer—widely used in industries such as packaging, automotive components, consumer goods, infrastructure, and healthcare. The project is expected to strengthen domestic polymer supply and reduce India’s dependence on imports.

Fully Integrated Commissioning

The polypropylene unit has been commissioned along with all associated utilities and offsite facilities, ensuring seamless integration with the existing petrochemical complex at Pata. As part of the project, a dedicated nitrogen plant has been brought online to support safe and efficient operations, while a mounded bullet storage facility has also been commissioned to enhance on-site storage capacity and safety systems.

The integrated execution highlights EIL’s capability to deliver end-to-end engineering, procurement, and construction solutions for complex petrochemical infrastructure.

Strategic Boost to India’s Petrochemical Ecosystem

The 60 KTPA polypropylene project is viewed as a strategic initiative aligned with India’s broader industrial objectives, including strengthening domestic manufacturing, supporting the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat programs, and enhancing value addition in the natural gas and downstream chemicals value chain.

By enabling the production of multiple polymer grades at a single site, the project adds flexibility and competitiveness to India’s polymer market.

Reinforcing EIL’s Leadership Role

The successful commissioning further reinforces Engineers India Limited’s leadership in executing large-scale energy and petrochemical projects of national importance. It also reflects the company’s long-standing collaboration with GAIL and its strong project management and technical execution capabilities.

Industry observers note that the project will contribute to India’s long-term energy security, industrial growth, and downstream manufacturing expansion.
