Drunken Husband Attacks Wife, Sets House on Fire in Chhattisgarh; Accused on the Run


Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, India: A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Ward No. 14 under the City Kotwali police station limits in Manendragarh, where a man allegedly attacked his wife with a blade and then set their house on fire before fleeing the scene.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Gaurav Sharma. His wife, who works as a teacher at a private school, was seriously injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Dispute Turns Violent

Officials said the incident took place on Friday following an argument between the couple. The dispute reportedly escalated when the husband, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulted his wife with a sharp blade. After the attack, he allegedly set the house on fire in a fit of rage and escaped.

The fire destroyed household items including furniture, clothes, and other belongings, causing significant property damage.

Police and Fire Services Respond

Local residents, alarmed by the flames, immediately alerted the police and fire department. Emergency teams reached the spot, brought the fire under control, and shifted the injured woman to a nearby hospital for medical care.

Manhunt Underway

Confirming the incident, the station in-charge of City Kotwali said a case has been registered against the accused for assault and arson. Teams from the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur Police have been formed to trace the suspect, who remains absconding.

The incident has created panic in the neighborhood. Police officials have assured residents that the accused will be arrested soon.
