New Delhi : In a significant leadership development, NTPC Limited has elevated Arnab Maitra, the Head of Project and Business Unit Head of NTPC Bongaigaon, to the position of Executive Director of the power station. The appointment recognizes his extensive contribution to India’s power sector and his leadership in enhancing the operational performance of the company’s flagship thermal power plant in Assam.
Shri Maitra has been leading NTPC Bongaigaon, a 750 MW (3×250 MW) thermal power station located in Assam, since January 2025. During his tenure, the station has witnessed notable improvements in generation performance, plant reliability, operational efficiency, safety standards, and stakeholder engagement.
A highly experienced power sector professional, Shri Maitra began his career with NTPC as an Executive Trainee in 1989 after earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the erstwhile Regional Engineering College (REC), Durgapur. He later completed an M.Tech in Power Generation Technology from IIT Delhi, further strengthening his technical expertise in the energy sector.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Shri Maitra has held key positions at several of NTPCโs major generating stations, including NTPC Farakka, NTPC Vindhyachal, NTPC Korba, and NTPC Darlipali. Through these assignments, he gained extensive experience in thermal power plant operations, maintenance management, project execution, and business leadership.
Throughout his professional journey, Maitra has played an important role in driving improvements in plant performance, operational excellence, and the implementation of best practices across multiple NTPC facilities. His expertise extends beyond technical operations, having undergone specialized training in areas such as power plant efficiency, occupational health and safety, preventive vigilance, coal coordination, operations and maintenance excellence, human resource management, disaster preparedness, first aid and CPR, and leadership development.
Under his stewardship, NTPC Bongaigaon has achieved several significant milestones in areas including power generation, plant reliability, ash utilization, environmental management, and workplace safety. The station has also earned multiple national-level awards and recognitions for excellence in occupational health and safety, human resource practices, sustainability initiatives, and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
In addition to operational achievements, Shri Maitra has been instrumental in strengthening the stationโs relationship with local communities. Under his leadership, NTPC Bongaigaon has expanded impactful CSR programs focused on healthcare services, education, womenโs empowerment, and livelihood development, contributing to the socio-economic growth of the surrounding region.
As Executive Director, Arnab Maitra is expected to continue guiding NTPC Bongaigaon toward higher levels of operational excellence, innovation, sustainability, and stakeholder value creation. His vast industry experience, strategic outlook, and people-centric leadership style are anticipated to further enhance the stationโs contribution to NTPCโs broader mission of delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to support India’s economic growth and energy security.
