Agricultural Market Officer Arrested in Sexual Exploitation Case, Korba Police Say

Korba, India: Police in Korba have arrested a former agricultural market (mandi) officer in connection with a sexual exploitation case, officials said on Friday. The accused was taken into custody from Gharghoda in neighboring Raigarh district following a complaint filed by a woman in Katghora.

According to police, the officer, who was previously posted in Katghora, is accused of sexually exploiting the complainant for nearly a year by repeatedly promising marriage. Investigators said the accused allegedly maintained a relationship with the woman and continued physical relations on the assurance that they would eventually marry.

Police said that when the woman began pressing for marriage, the officer initially delayed the matter with repeated assurances but later distanced himself completely. He allegedly stopped responding to her calls and later threatened her when she confronted him about marriage, prompting the victim to approach the police.

Arrest and Legal Action

Based on the complaint, Katghora police registered a case and launched a search operation. During the investigation, officers traced the accused to Gharghoda, where he was arrested.

“After receiving the complaint of sexual exploitation, we conducted a search and found that the accused was currently posted in Gharghoda,” said Dharmanayan Tiwari, Station House Officer of Katghora police station. “He was brought to Katghora, where all legal procedures were completed.”

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody, police said.

Police Response

Korba Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari directed prompt action after reviewing the complaint, officials added.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further legal steps will be taken based on evidence collected during the probe.
