A recent leak has sparked speculation that Sony may be preparing to introduce new features to the PlayStation 5. Unused PS5 Store icons discovered in the system’s database reportedly suggest that cross-buy support and a mysterious “echo mode” could be in development. Additionally, several icons appear to indicate cross-platform availability between PS5 and PC — a feature that could strengthen Sony’s growing presence in the PC gaming space.
Potential Clues in the Leaked Icons
The discovery comes from Twitter user @Amethxst, who shared images allegedly showing several unreleased PS5 icons. Among them was a “PS5/PC” symbol, possibly designed to denote games that are available on both platforms. Another was a Cross-Buy icon, hinting at the possibility of a system similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere, which allows users to purchase a game once and access it across both console and PC.
Other leaked icons include green and gray charging symbols, as well as indicators for cloud save backup and DualSense touchpad support. Notably, these icons were reportedly absent from the PS4 database, suggesting they are exclusive to the PS5 ecosystem.
Game Rant corroborated @Amethxst’s claims with a screenshot taken on a PS5 console on November 4 at 8:30 PM Eastern, lending further credibility to the leak. In response to community questions, the leaker also shared a video demonstrating the icons in the PSN interface, noting that they were added between March and November 2025.
Sony’s Continued PS5 Expansion
Since its rocky 2020 debut, the PS5 has steadily grown its user base through a combination of exclusive titles and backward compatibility support. With over 80 million units sold, the console has become a mainstay for both casual and hardcore gamers.
Sony’s increasing efforts to bring PlayStation exclusives such as God of War Ragnarök and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to PC have also blurred the line between console and PC ecosystems. If the rumored Cross-Buy system and platform indicators are implemented, they could mark another major step toward a unified PlayStation experience.
Rumor or Roadmap?
As with all leaks, these claims should be treated with caution until Sony makes an official announcement. Still, the presence of these icons — particularly the PS5/PC and Cross-Buy symbols — could hint at future updates to the PlayStation Network and Store interface.
For now, fans can only speculate whether Sony is preparing to roll out new features that align more closely with Microsoft’s cross-platform strategy, or if these icons are simply remnants of internal testing.
