Tribal leaders from 12 states to attend the grand event; rally to be held from Budha Talab Indoor Stadium to Jai Stambh Chowk
Raipur : The Sarva Adivasi Samaj will organize a grand program in Raipur on Sunday, August 9, 2026, to mark World Tribal Day. The event will be held at the Budha Talab Indoor Stadium and is expected to bring together thousands of members of the tribal community, community leaders and representatives.
According to the organizers, tribal community leaders and representatives from around 12 states will participate in the event. Discussions on key issues concerning tribal communities will be held, and a national agenda for the tribal community is expected to be announced during the program.
Tribal Community to Prepare a National Agenda
B.S. Rawate, state president of Sarva Adivasi Samaj, said representatives and community leaders from several states will participate in the event.
According to Rawate, the participating representatives will discuss issues affecting tribal communities and work toward preparing a common national agenda. The proposed agenda will subsequently be presented to the President of India.
Rawate said the Government of India had proposed a National Tribal Policy in 2006, but several issues concerning tribal communities remain unresolved. He said the community now intends to formulate its own priorities and proposals and present them before the appropriate authorities.
Rawate Questions Role of Political Representatives
Rawate also raised questions about the participation of elected representatives in addressing issues concerning tribal communities.
He alleged that tribal representatives elected from different political parties often prioritize their respective party interests rather than consistently raising issues affecting the tribal community.
According to Rawate, the tribal community is now working toward developing its own strategy based on social, economic and community interests, rather than simply supporting one political party or another.
Why Is World Tribal Day Observed?
According to Rawate, the United Nations declared August 9 as International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples in 1994, with the objective of drawing attention to the rights, development and welfare of indigenous communities around the world.
The day provides indigenous communities with an opportunity to come together, celebrate their cultural identity and discuss issues related to their rights, development and welfare.
Tribal organizations across India organize programs at the state, district and local levels to mark the occasion.
Rally From Budha Talab to Jai Stambh Chowk
A rally will also be organized in Raipur as part of the World Tribal Day celebrations.
The rally will begin at the Budha Talab Indoor Stadium and proceed toward Jai Stambh Chowk. At Jai Stambh Chowk, participants will pay tribute to Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh, a prominent tribal freedom fighter from Chhattisgarh.
A public meeting will be held after the tribute ceremony, where tribal leaders and representatives are expected to discuss social, political and development-related issues.
The proposed national agenda for the tribal community is expected to be one of the key highlights of this year’s World Tribal Day program in Raipur.
