Police Constable Found Dead Inside Chhattisgarh Police Station, Raising Concerns Over Mental Health in Law Enforcement

SAKTI, Chhattisgarh | — A police constable posted at the Hasaud Police Station in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, was found dead on Saturday evening in an apparent case of suicide, sending shockwaves through the local police force and the community.

According to police officials, Constable Jai Kumar Lahare was discovered hanging in a room on the upper floor of the police station. Fellow officers immediately rushed him to the Hasaud Primary Health Centre, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family. Authorities have registered a marg (unnatural death) case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. As of now, no suicide note or confirmed motive has been made public, and officials say all possible angles are being examined.

Family Left Devastated

The tragic news left the constable’s family in deep grief. His wife, children, and relatives rushed to the hospital after learning about the incident. Family members were reportedly too distressed to speak, with many struggling to understand what may have driven the officer to take such an extreme step.

Mental Health in Policing Under Spotlight

The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing concerns surrounding mental health among police personnel. Law enforcement officers often work under intense pressure, including long working hours, staff shortages, high-risk assignments, public expectations, and personal responsibilities.

Mental health experts have repeatedly emphasized that prolonged occupational stress can significantly affect emotional well-being if adequate support systems are not available. However, the exact reasons behind this incident remain unknown, and it would be inappropriate to speculate until the official investigation is completed.

Department Reviewing Support Measures

Senior police officials stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway. Discussions have also reportedly begun within the department regarding counseling services, psychological support, and additional employee welfare measures aimed at helping personnel cope with workplace stress.

The death of Constable Jai Kumar Lahare is more than an isolated incident. It has become a reminder of the emotional burden carried by many officers serving in uniform and highlights the importance of strengthening mental health support within law enforcement agencies while the investigation continues.
