New Delhi — RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. has announced a strategic partnership with Tata Communications Limited to modernize India’s digital backbone and accelerate the country’s transition toward AI-driven infrastructure.
RailTel, a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, operates one of India’s largest neutral telecom networks, spanning more than 63,000 route kilometers of optical fiber. Its network connects major cities, rural areas, and over 6,000 railway stations, serving government ministries, public sector units, banks, and educational institutions.
Building an AI-Ready Network
Under the collaboration, RailTel’s nationwide fiber footprint will integrate with Tata Communications’ global digital ecosystem, which includes advanced network services, cloud platforms, cybersecurity solutions, and AI-enabled tools.
The partnership aims to modernize and optimize network infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity frameworks, enable secure and sovereign cloud adoption for sensitive data, and improve overall service reliability. AI-powered platforms will also be deployed to enhance network visibility, resilience, and performance.

Government departments and enterprises using RailTel’s network are expected to gain faster connectivity, improved system stability, and stronger data protection.
