US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Visit India from October 17–22, to Travel to Jamnagar

Rubio is expected to discuss strengthening the US-India strategic partnership, expanding energy cooperation and promoting business and investment opportunities.

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit India from October 17 to 22, following a trip to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as Washington looks to deepen strategic and energy cooperation with New Delhi.

New Delhi: Press Meet After Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

According to the US State Department, Rubio will travel to Mumbai and Jamnagar during his India visit. He is scheduled to meet senior government officials to discuss ways to strengthen the US-India strategic partnership, exchange views on regional and global issues, and explore opportunities for closer energy cooperation.

The visit will also include meetings with business leaders to promote commercial investment and expand economic ties between the two countries.

Second India Visit Since May

Rubio’s upcoming trip will be his second visit to India since May, when he attended a meeting of Quad foreign ministers hosted by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi.

The latest visit comes as India and the United States continue to explore opportunities to broaden cooperation across strategic, economic and energy sectors.

Why Jamnagar Is Significant

Rubio’s planned visit to Jamnagar is expected to draw particular attention because the Gujarat city is home to Reliance Industries’ major refining complex, widely recognised as the world’s largest single-site refining hub.

The facility has a reported capacity of approximately 1.4 million barrels of crude oil per day, making it a significant part of India’s energy infrastructure.

The visit also comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s announcement in March about plans for a new oil refinery in Brownsville, Texas, which he said would be built with investment from Reliance Industries. Trump described the project as the first new US refinery in 50 years and put its projected cost at $300 billion. The project’s precise scope, financing and implementation details would need to be established through further official information.

Rubio to Attend C5+1 Ministerial Meeting in Uzbekistan

Before arriving in India, Rubio will travel to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, to participate in the C5+1 Ministerial Meeting, a diplomatic platform connecting the United States with five Central Asian countries.

The meeting will focus on how the partnership can support a more peaceful and prosperous future for the United States and Central Asia.

Rubio is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with senior officials from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

More than 200 business leaders are expected to accompany the US commercial delegation, with the visit aimed at expanding trade and investment links between the United States and Central Asia.

Rubio’s two-country tour is expected to highlight Washington’s efforts to strengthen strategic relationships, deepen commercial engagement and identify new opportunities for economic and energy cooperation across the regions.
