PMAY Hurdles Eased for Visually Impaired Beneficiary in Chhattisgarh Following Ministerial Intervention

Bilaspur : A visually impaired beneficiary in Kota municipality of Chhattisgarh has received relief from procedural hurdles under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) following the intervention of Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu.

Shyam Sundar Namdev had reportedly been facing difficulties accessing housing scheme benefits because of mandatory geo-tagging and biometric verification requirements. These procedures posed additional challenges for him due to his visual impairment.

After Namdev approached the Union Minister with his concerns, Sahu directed officials of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to examine the matter and find a solution that would accommodate his circumstances.

Verification Barriers Addressed

Following the minister’s intervention, the ministry addressed the geo-tagging-related obstacle in Namdev’s case and completed the process for granting a special exemption from face-recognition requirements, according to the information provided.

The intervention is expected to help Namdev move forward with his housing benefits. The case also highlights the difficulties that technology-dependent verification procedures can create for persons with disabilities and other beneficiaries facing exceptional circumstances.

Guidelines Planned for States

The initiative is also expected to have implications beyond the individual case. According to the information released, the ministry’s Housing Finance Assistance Division is preparing to issue guidelines to states to simplify local-level verification and authentication for eligible persons with disabilities and beneficiaries facing special circumstances.

If implemented, the proposed measures could help make the process more accessible to people who find standard digital verification procedures difficult to complete.

The proposed guidelines would seek to make the delivery of housing assistance more inclusive while addressing practical barriers encountered by eligible applicants.

Focus on Accessible Housing Benefits

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is intended to support eligible beneficiaries in accessing housing assistance. Ensuring that verification requirements do not unintentionally exclude persons with disabilities remains an important consideration in the effective delivery of such welfare schemes.

Namdev’s case draws attention to the need for administrative flexibility and accessible verification mechanisms so that eligible beneficiaries can navigate scheme procedures with greater ease.

The proposed state-level guidance, once formally issued and implemented, could provide a framework for handling similar cases and improving access to housing benefits for people facing exceptional circumstances.
