Entire land demarcation process to move online with digital mapping, online applications and real-time status updates
Raipur: Landowners in Chhattisgarh may soon no longer need to make repeated trips to tehsil offices for land measurement and demarcation. The state’s Revenue and Land Records Department is introducing a new digital system aimed at making the land demarcation process faster, more transparent and convenient for citizens.
Under the new system, applications for land demarcation will be submitted entirely online through Lok Seva Kendras, the Revenue Department’s Citizen Portal or SevaSetu. The existing practice of submitting offline or manual applications at the tehsil level is being phased out.
Land Demarcation Application to Be Fully Digital
Once an application is submitted through the designated digital platforms, it will be directly transferred to the concerned Tehsildar’s user ID for further processing.
The new system will also allow Revenue Inspectors to submit their reports online.
This will enable applicants to track the progress of their applications and receive information about the status of the case at different stages of the process.
The move is expected to reduce paperwork and minimise the need for applicants to physically visit government offices.
New Module to Be Implemented Within Seven Days
The Revenue Department’s Land Records Branch has issued instructions in this regard.
According to the department’s communication, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been directed to make the necessary technical modifications to the e-Court software and implement the new module within seven days.
Once implemented, the land demarcation process will be handled through an online workflow supported by digital mapping technology.
Physical Visit Required Only in Case of Objection
One of the major changes under the proposed system is that an applicant will generally not be required to visit the tehsil office if the demarcation case is undisputed.
A physical visit may be required only if a neighbouring landowner or another concerned party formally raises an objection during the demarcation process.
For uncontested cases, the applicant is expected to be able to complete the process without visiting the government office.
End to Manual Process and Middlemen
The shift from manual applications to a digital workflow is also expected to reduce unnecessary visits to government offices and limit the scope for middlemen and intermediaries.
The system will provide a defined workflow and timeline for processing applications, which is expected to help address delays and reduce the number of pending cases.
Applicants will also be able to receive their demarcation reports within the prescribed timeframe, subject to the applicable process and any objections.
More Revenue Services Already Available Online
The Revenue and Land Records Department has already digitised several citizen services in Chhattisgarh.
Citizens can obtain digitally signed B-1 and P-II documents and download certified copies of land records containing QR codes.
Online applications and status tracking are also available for mutation of land records following property transactions.
Other services and records that have been digitised include:
- Online Nazari maps
- Converted land records
- Tax records relating to Nazul land
- Digitally accessible land records
- Online tracking of revenue court cases
- Hearing and order status of revenue cases
Step Towards Transparent Digital Governance
The new land demarcation module is expected to further strengthen Chhattisgarh’s digital revenue administration.
By shifting applications, reports, tracking and mapping to an online platform, the government aims to make the process more transparent, time-bound and citizen-friendly.
For landowners, the biggest expected benefit will be the reduction in repeated visits to tehsil offices, particularly in cases where there is no dispute over the property’s boundaries.
The initiative is being positioned as another step towards digital governance and more efficient delivery of revenue services to citizens across the state.
