- Manage Coal India’s overseas investments more efficiently.
- Provide flexibility for future acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic partnerships.
Critical minerals play an important role in sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, electronics, advanced manufacturing and defence. Through its Singapore-based subsidiary, Coal India aims to gain a stronger foothold in the international critical minerals value chain.
Government Approvals
The incorporation of the overseas subsidiary received the necessary clearances from the Ministry of Coal (MoC) and the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).
The creation of a dedicated overseas entity is expected to provide Coal India with a structured platform to evaluate and execute international investment opportunities.
Regulatory Disclosure
Coal India has informed BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited about the incorporation under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Strategic Significance
The move represents an important diversification step for Coal India as it looks beyond its traditional domestic coal mining operations. With global demand for critical minerals rising due to the energy transition and growth of advanced technologies, CIL Global Pte. Ltd. could serve as Coal India’s platform for overseas mineral acquisitions and strategic investments.
The Singapore subsidiary strengthens Coal India’s ambition to participate in the global critical minerals ecosystem while supporting India’s broader objective of securing supplies of minerals that are vital to future industries.
