Balodabazar SP Gaurav Rai Holds Marathon Crime Meeting, Directs Police to Step Up Action Against Crime

New SP Gaurav Rai conducts day-long review of pending cases and lays out strategy to strengthen law and order across the district

Balodabazar: Newly appointed Balodabazar Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Rai has stepped up efforts to strengthen law and order in the district, holding a marathon crime review meeting with police officers on Sunday.

The day-long meeting focused on reviewing the status of pending crimes, unnatural death cases (Marg), complaints and investigations pending under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as of July 31, 2026.

The SP reviewed all three police subdivisions of the district — Balodabazar, Kasdol and Bhatapara — separately and directed police station and outpost in-charges to prioritise the disposal of long-pending cases.

All Three Police Subdivisions Reviewed

The review meeting was conducted in three phases.

The Balodabazar subdivision was reviewed at 10 am, followed by the Kasdol subdivision at noon and the Bhatapara subdivision at 2 pm.

During each session, the SP reviewed the pending cases at individual police stations and outposts and sought explanations from officers regarding the reasons for delays.

SP Orders Faster Disposal of Pending Cases

SP Gaurav Rai issued strict directions regarding pending criminal cases, Marg inquiries and public complaints.

He instructed police station in-charges to give priority to cases that have remained unresolved for a long period. Investigating officers were directed to collect all necessary evidence in a scientific and legally sound manner so that cases can be presented effectively before the courts.

The SP stressed that merely reducing the number of pending cases on paper would not be sufficient. He said the police must ensure fair, high-quality and time-bound investigation and disposal of cases.

The meeting also reviewed pending matters related to supplementary charge sheets and further investigation under Section 193(9) of the BNSS. Investigating officers were instructed to collect the required evidence within the prescribed time and submit charge sheets before the court according to law.

Sensitive Handling of Public Complaints

SP Rai directed officers to deal with complainants sensitively and ensure that every complaint receives a fair and proper inquiry.

He instructed police personnel not to keep complaints pending unnecessarily and to take appropriate action after completing the investigation.

Particular emphasis was also placed on Marg cases, with officers directed to conduct necessary inquiries and collect evidence to establish the actual cause of death.

Action Against Illegal Activities

The SP also reviewed the district’s crime-control strategy and directed officers to conduct sustained campaigns against illegal liquor trade and smuggling, gambling, betting and other anti-social activities.

He said effective crime control requires more than enforcement action and that basic policing must also be strengthened.

Officers were instructed to increase regular patrolling, monitor suspicious activities and maintain a visible police presence in vulnerable areas.

Police Stations to Remain Under Close Review

The functioning of police stations and outposts was also reviewed during the meeting.

Officers were directed to remain proactive in preventing crime within their respective jurisdictions, conduct regular patrolling in sensitive areas and respond promptly to law-and-order situations.

SP Gaurav Rai also emphasised the importance of responsible and sensitive public dealing. Police personnel were instructed to listen seriously to the concerns of people approaching police stations and ensure that their grievances are handled appropriately.

The marathon review meeting is being seen as part of the new SP’s efforts to strengthen accountability, investigation quality, crime prevention and public-oriented policing across Balodabazar district.
