Xbox Game Pass Adds Another Vampire Survivors-Like Game

Halls of Torment has joined the Xbox Game Pass content catalog. The Vampire Survivors-like title marks the 65th new addition to the service for October 2025, as well as the 187th Xbox Game Pass release since the turn of the year.

Developed by German studio Chasing Carrots, Halls of Torment is a retro-styled action roguelike centered on horde survival. Although this makes it likely to appeal to Vampire Survivors fans, it is much more than a mere clone of Poncle’s 2022 game. Specifically, it offers robust RPG mechanics with a plethora of gear and build options that wouldn’t look out of place in a modern hack ‘n slash RPG in the vein of Diablo 4. This formula resonated with reviewers, as reflected in Halls of Torment‘s “Mighty” rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 85 and a (rare) 100% recommendation rate. Its player impressions are comparably favorable, with the game boasting over 20,000 “Overwhelmingly Positive” Steam user reviews as of October 2025, 13 months since its release.

Halls of Torment Now Available on 3 Xbox Game Pass Tiers

Halls of Torment made its way to Microsoft’s subscription service on October 28. Because it’s not a day-one title, Chasing Carrots’ action roguelike launched across every non-Essential tier of Xbox Game Pass: PC, Premium, and Ultimate. Though it doesn’t have an Xbox One port, Halls of Torment can be experienced on Microsoft’s last-gen console via Xbox Cloud Gaming, which has expanded to every tier of the service apart from PC Game Pass back in late August 2025.

Halls of Torment is the first-ever title developed or published by Chasing Carrots to make its way to Xbox Game Pass. Therefore, there is no precedent for estimating how long it may remain on the service. Most arrivals stick around as part of Microsoft’s on-demand content catalog for at least a year. The roguelike’s Xbox Game Pass debut coincides with the launch of a new free update, which has been in testing on the beta branch since October 14. The patch adds a Bard character, balancing tweaks, and bug fixes, among other novelties. The game’s first-ever DLCโ€”The Boglands, introducing a new stage, two new heroes, and over 50 questsโ€”is also available for purchase beginning today.

Halls of Torment is not the first Vampire Survivors-like game to reach Microsoft’s subscription service in recent weeks, as Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor made its way to Xbox Game Pass back in mid-September. The more recently launched Super Fantasy Kingdom, which arrived on October 24, is a city-builder roguelike at heart, but with a tower defense loop that might appeal to survivorslike fans.
