U.S. Deputy Secretary Says America Can Be India’s Most Reliable Energy Partner

New Delhi, India — A senior U.S. official has said the United States could become one of India’s most reliable alternative energy partners, highlighting growing strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the 2026 edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, Christopher Landau, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, emphasized that America is well-positioned to support India’s rapidly expanding energy needs.

Focus on Energy Security

During a session titled “Power, Purpose and Partnership,” Landau said that global energy supply chains are facing increasing uncertainty, but the United States remains committed to helping India secure both its short-term and long-term energy requirements.

“As an energy-abundant country, the United States is prepared to serve as a dependable energy partner for India,” Landau said, noting that stable cooperation in energy could strengthen broader strategic ties.

His remarks come at a time when tensions in the Middle East have raised concerns about disruptions in global oil and gas supplies, prompting many countries to explore alternative and more stable sources of energy.

Growing Trade and Technology Cooperation

Landau also pointed to a potential new trade agreement between the United States and India as a “promising step” toward unlocking the full potential of the bilateral partnership.

In the technology sector, he described artificial intelligence as a transformative force and encouraged India to engage with the “PaxSilica” framework, an initiative aimed at building resilient and shared technology supply chains among trusted partners.

According to Landau, technological cooperation—especially in advanced computing and AI—will play a major role in shaping economic competitiveness and global influence in the coming decades.

Science Diplomacy Takes Center Stage

The conference also featured the inaugural Raisina Science Diplomacy Initiative (SDI), which brought together around 80 scientists, diplomats, and policy experts from across the world. Participants held closed-door discussions on how emerging technologies are reshaping national development, economic competition, and global security.

Global Leaders Gather in New Delhi

The Raisina Dialogue, one of Asia’s leading geopolitical conferences, is being held over three days under the theme “Sanskriti: Voice, Harmony and Progress.”

The event has attracted nearly 2,700 delegates from 110 countries, including former heads of state, military leaders, diplomats, and business executives.

Landau’s remarks signaled that Washington increasingly views New Delhi not just as a major market but as a critical strategic partner in areas ranging from energy security and technology development to regional stability and counterterrorism.
