Raigarh Police Arrest Man Within 24 Hours for Objectionable Social Media Post on Religious Figure


Raigarh, India |Raigarh Police have arrested a 32-year-old man within 24 hours for allegedly posting objectionable and offensive content about Shri Satyanarayan Baba Ji on social media, officials said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Saroj Ratre, a resident of Salihabhantha village under Urga police station limits in Korba district, was apprehended from Korba with the assistance of Korba Police. He has been sent to judicial custody.

According to police, a written complaint was received regarding an objectionable video and post shared from a Facebook account named “Soozoo.” The content was described as highly offensive, indecent, and capable of disturbing communal harmony.

Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh directed Kotraroad Police to register a case and ensure swift action. Following the instructions, a case was registered under Sections 353 and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A joint team from Kotraroad Police Station and the Cyber Crime Unit conducted a technical investigation, traced the accused through digital evidence, and rushed to Korba. The accused was arrested with the cooperation of Korba Police.

Police also seized a Vivo mobile phone allegedly used to upload and circulate the objectionable content. Further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved in the incident.

SSP Shashi Mohan Singh stated that the district’s Social Media Monitoring Cell is continuously tracking online activities to prevent the spread of content that could disrupt social harmony. He urged citizens to use social media responsibly and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to incite discord.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendents of Police Anil Soni and Anil Vishwakarma, with significant contributions from the Kotraroad Police Station and Cyber Crime Unit staff.
