Raipur : The ongoing protest by D.Ed-qualified candidates over the Chhattisgarh Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2023 has now gained national attention, with former Union Minister and ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda stepping in to support the agitating aspirants. His intervention has significantly increased political pressure on the Vishnu Deo Sai-led state government.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Munda urged the state government to take a sympathetic and expeditious decision regarding the recruitment of candidates against 2,300 vacant posts, in line with directions issued by the Chhattisgarh High Court. He emphasized the need for a fair and humane approach, considering the prolonged suffering of the candidates.

Movement Gains National Spotlight
Until now, the D.Ed aspirants’ agitation had largely remained a state-level issue. However, Arjun Munda’s letter has elevated the matter to the national stage. As one of the country’s most prominent tribal leaders, Munda framed the issue not merely as an administrative delay but as a question of social justice, constitutional responsibility, and youth rights.
Political observers believe his support has given the movement renewed moral and political legitimacy, potentially reshaping the government’s response.
Appeal for Sensitivity and Timely Action
In his communication, Munda cited the Chhattisgarh High Court’s orders, warning that continued delays in implementing judicial directives amount to injustice toward young aspirants whose careers are at stake. He called upon the state leadership to view the issue through a humanitarian lens, rather than treating it as a routine bureaucratic matter.
49-Day Hunger Strike Raises Health Concerns
The D.Ed candidates have been on an indefinite hunger strike for 49 days at the Tuta protest site in Naya Raipur. The situation has grown increasingly serious, with frequent medical emergencies reported. Protesters have repeatedly lost consciousness, ambulances have been deployed daily, and several participants have been hospitalized—highlighting the gravity of the crisis.
It was this deteriorating health situation, sources say, that prompted Arjun Munda’s direct intervention.
A Signal from Tribal Leadership
Munda’s letter is being widely interpreted as more than a gesture of solidarity. Coming from a senior tribal leader and former Chief Minister, his appeal carries strong political symbolism—especially as Chhattisgarh is currently governed by a Chief Minister from the tribal community.
Analysts suggest the move reflects broader sentiments within tribal and youth communities and serves as a clear signal that expectations of responsive governance are high.
Decision Now Rests with the Government
With national attention intensifying, the D.Ed aspirants’ movement has reached a critical juncture. The key question remains whether the Sai government will act on the appeal of a national tribal leader and address the demands of fasting candidates—or risk allowing the issue to escalate into a larger political and social crisis.
For now, all eyes are on the Chhattisgarh government’s next move.
