Amit Shah on Friday claimed that the Muslim population in India has increased 24.6 per cent, attributing the rise to infiltration and not the fertility rate.
he Opposition Congress has slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his Muslim population comments, accusing him of trying to create communal discord and polarise voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
Referring to Amit Shah’s remarks, Pawan Khera, Chairman, Media & Publicity Department of the Congress, said, “The Minister of Cooperation (Shah also holds this portfolio) said the most uncooperative thing on 10th Oct to fan the Hindu-Muslim fire, and polarise voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
Khera said that Shah’s claim of widespread ‘Muslim infiltration’ in India raises a logical question – “what exactly was the Minister of Home Affairs doing for the last 11 years?”
Sharing a purported screenshot of Amit Shah’s X post about the rise in Muslim population, Khera claimed that the Home Minister deleted it after realsing it could backfire.
“He quickly realised that he is also the Home Minister and the boomerang he had aimed at Muslims had turned around and found him. So, his post was immediately deleted,” he said.
“But that doesn’t delete the truth,” the Congress leader said.
He further stated that between 2005–2013, Congress governments deported 88,792 Bangladeshi nationals. However, under the BJP rule, Khera claimed less than 10,000 have been deported in 11 years.
“Yet, we never boasted and the BJP will never shut up,” he added.
His remarks came after Amit Shah on Friday claimed that the Muslim population in India has increased 24.6 per cent, attributing the rise to infiltration and not the fertility rate.
Speaking at an event in Delhi, Shah said, “The Muslim population has increased by 24.6 per cent, whereas the Hindu population has decreased by 4.5 per cent. I am telling you this because it hasn’t happened because of the fertility rate. It has happened because of infiltration.”
