Mumbai : Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has announced a significant change in its senior management following the superannuation of Sanjay Kumar Mazumder, Executive Director, who concluded a distinguished career spanning more than 37 years in India’s energy sector.
A Mechanical Engineer by training, Shri Mazumder joined ONGC in 1989 and went on to serve the organization in a wide range of leadership and operational roles. His career included key assignments in offshore production operations, pipeline management, and asset administration, where he played a critical role in strengthening operational efficiency and asset performance.
During his tenure, Shri Mazumder held pivotal positions at major ONGC installations, including Mumbai High and the Assam Asset at Geleky. He also served as Asset Manager for producing fields such as Neelam, Heera, and Mumbai High, contributing to strategic decision-making and long-term production optimization in some of ONGC’s most important assets.
In senior leadership roles, including Chief Executive Officer of ONGC Green Limited and Executive Director (Special Duty) to the Director (Exploration), Shri Mazumder was closely associated with ONGC’s energy transition initiatives. His work supported the corporation’s efforts toward sustainable growth, renewable energy integration, and enhanced Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards.
ONGC noted that Shri Mazumder was widely respected for his calm leadership style, deep operational knowledge, and people-centric approach, earning him recognition as a mentor and guide across the organization.
The corporation stated that his retirement marks an important transition in ONGC’s senior management, leaving behind a legacy of discipline, operational excellence, and strategic vision that will continue to influence the company’s future direction.
Honoring his service, ONGC remarked, “Once an ONGCian, always an ONGCian,” acknowledging Shri Mazumder’s lasting contributions to the organization and India’s energy sector.
